How to support us

The National Gas Museum Trust is a charity. We were set up in 1997 to take care of the historic objects collected by Britain’s nationalised gas industry, mostly in the 1960s and 1970s. We have around 4,000 objects drawn from several former regions of British Gas and donated by individuals. We also have a large collection of photographs, books and other material relating to gas, and visitors are welcome to explore the archive by appointment. Highlights of our collection are on display at the Museum, and like most museums we have extra material in store, available for research or on loan.

Donating objects or archives

If you have an object you might like to donate to the museum, please contact The Curator at nationalgasmuseum@gmail.com, of the National Gas Museum. Unfortunately the Trust is rarely able to pay for the cost of transporting large objects.

Opportunities for Volunteers

We’re a small and friendly museum and warmly welcome volunteers. There are plenty of opportunities for volunteers to play valued and significant roles. Please browse the role descriptions to the right of this page to see if one suits you.

For an informal discussion about any role, email the role title along with your phone number, CV and a photo to the curator at nationalgasmuseum@gmail.com and you’ll get a call back as soon as possible.

If you have ideas to share, and what you want to do is not here, contact us to tell us what you love doing. We’ll investigate to find out if there is an overlap between your interests and our development plans.
